Once again, we return to Altes Pfandhaus Cologne — this time with Azerbaijani guitar master Rəhman Məmmədli.
A central figure of the legendary Azerbaijani Gitara movement, Rəhman Məmmədli has developed a singular musical language that merges traditional mugham and ashiq music with the electric guitar. The result is deeply hypnotic, psychedelic, and emotionally charged — a sound that moves between folklore, improvisation, and experimental sonic landscapes.
Often described as “the man with singing fingers,” Rəhman’s playing has captivated audiences far beyond the Caucasus through its intensity, precision, and unmistakable emotional depth.
Following acclaimed European appearances — including performances at Le Guess Who? Festival — and the release of Azerbaijani Gitara Vol. 2 on Bongo Joe Records, we are beyond excited to welcome him back to Cologne in 2026.
For this special concert, Rəhman will be joined by:
- Tural Məmmədli — keyboards
- Elshad Abdulrahimov — percussion

The evening will open with a special dance performance by Dourna Khamsalou, an Iranian-born professional dancer, choreographer, and dance educator specializing in Azerbaijani dance traditions. Having trained with renowned teachers in Iran and Azerbaijan and performed at numerous cultural festivals across the region, Dourna brings decades of artistic experience to the stage. Her performance will offer a vibrant introduction to the rich cultural heritage that informs much of Rəhman Məmmədli’s musical universe.
