Salam Alhassan

Originally from Aleppo and born in 1975 in Damascus, Salam Alhassan is a Berlin-based percussionist and multidisciplinary artist whose work spans music, animation, illustration, comics, and photography. His artistic practice moves fluidly across disciplines, reflecting a long-standing engagement with visual storytelling and sound.

As an illustrator, his work includes Shabyat Elcartoon (2013), alongside projects as an animation director and filmmaker. In 2008, he produced two short films, with Short Dream later presented in Beirut, Tunisia, and at the Forum des Images in Paris in 2013.

Since relocating to Berlin in 2015, Alhassan has focused more deeply on his musical work as a percussionist. He performs with several multinational bands, including Fattoush and Jamila and The Other Heroes, exploring the fusion of diverse musical genres and influences. His rhythmic approach brings together Arabic percussion traditions with global sounds, resulting in dynamic, layered live performances. Alongside this, he continues to work as a freelance graphic designer.
