Kamakan Project

Kamakan Project

Kamakan is a music project founded by Iranian artist Mahdi Saki, born in Ahwaz, in the culturally rich province of Khuzestan. Rooted in the diverse heritage of southern Iran, Kamakan blends Arab and Persian musical traditions, poetry, and contemporary influences into a sound that is both deeply emotional and unmistakably modern.

Saki, who studied dance and theater in Tehran, began Kamakan as an artistic refuge — a way to transform personal and collective memories into sound. The project’s early works resonated strongly with the Iranian youth, capturing the melancholy and vitality of a generation seeking connection beyond borders.

Since its founding in 2015, Kamakan has continually evolved, expanding its sonic landscape to include electronic textures that bridge tradition and innovation, making the music accessible to a global audience. On stage, the project transforms fluidly — appearing in different formations and with various musicians, each iteration adding new layers of expression.

Kamakan is more than a band — it is a living journey through sound and memory, where southern Iranian rhythms meet electronic experimentation, and where poetry becomes music for both heart and body.
