Guy Dermosessian is a DJ, music collector, and founder of the record label Kalakuta Soul Records. For more than 15 years, his work has focused on the visibility and representation of migrant culture and diasporic music. In Bochum, he established the Cute Community Space (CCS) — a hybrid community hub that warmly welcomes people each week through workshops, live performances, and DJ sets.
At the center of this practice is Cute Community Radio (CCR), which serves as an international platform for marginalized voices that often remain underrepresented within mainstream media landscapes. In recognition of the quality and impact of its programming, the venue has twice received the APPLAUS Award, Germany’s federal prize for outstanding music venues and concert programs.
The space is consciously operated as a “Braver Space,” creating a protected environment where BIPoC communities and people affected by marginalization can experiment artistically, connect with one another, and encourage each other through collective cultural practice.
