Güner Künier is one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary European post-punk. Blending driving synthesizers, minimalist rhythms, abrasive guitars, and emotionally charged songwriting, she creates music that explores identity, belonging, rebellion, and self-liberation. Drawing from post-punk, minimal synth, shoegaze, krautrock, and riot grrrl influences, her work transforms personal experiences into powerful sonic landscapes.
Born in İzmir, Turkey, Güner moved with her family to Flensburg, Germany, at the age of three. Music became part of her life early on, playing in bands throughout her teenage years before studying industrial engineering and eventually relocating to Berlin. After completing her studies, she left engineering behind to fully dedicate herself to art, working as both an actress and musician before launching her solo career in the early 2020s.
Her debut album Aşk introduced a bold new voice within Germany’s underground music scene, followed by her debut EP in 2021. Since then, Güner has toured extensively throughout Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, performing at renowned festivals including Eurosonic and Reeperbahn Festival.
Her second album, Yaramaz, released in 2025 via Flirt 99, marks a significant artistic step forward. The Turkish word yaramaz—often used to describe mischievous or rebellious children—is reclaimed throughout the album as a symbol of personal freedom and resistance against social and familial expectations. The record explores themes of self-worth, chosen family, loneliness, and empowerment while maintaining an uncompromising sonic identity.
On stage, Güner Künier delivers performances that are both intimate and explosive. Her hypnotic blend of analog synths, driving drum machines, distorted guitars, and detached yet deeply expressive vocals creates an atmosphere that feels equally rooted in the underground clubs of Berlin and the pioneering spirit of late-70s post-punk. Every performance invites audiences into a space where vulnerability and defiance coexist.
