Cheshmak (also known as cheshmak.mp3) is an Iranian experimental music trio that fuses cabaret, maqam, psychedelic rock, and spiritual jazz into a sound both nostalgic and radically new. Their music moves freely between structure and improvisation, creating vivid, cinematic soundscapes where East and West meet on equal terms.
The group — Aref Mirbaghi (bass), Kaveh Ghaffari (accordion), and Farhad Asadi (drums) — draws inspiration from diverse traditions of performance and composition, channeling elements of Persian folk, cosmic jazz, and theatrical storytelling. Their approach results in a deeply textured sound often described as cosmic Persian jazz, both intimate and expansive.
Based in Tehran, Cheshmak represents a generation of artists navigating the boundaries between heritage and experimentation. Their debut CHESHMAK EP introduced listeners to a world of hypnotic grooves, poetic atmospheres, and emotional intensity — a body of work that is as much about listening as it is about feeling.
Beyond the studio, Cheshmak performs live and leads workshops that open windows into Iran’s independent music scene and its evolving creative movements. Their music is available on Bandcamp, Apple Music, and SoundCloud, reaching audiences worldwide who are drawn to their fusion of cultural memory and contemporary sound.
