Jamila Al-Yousef is bandleader of her internationally touring ensemble JAMILA & THE OTHER HEROES. The Berlin based band from manywhere is combining psychedelic desert rock with activist content. Jamila Al-Yousef, who named the band after her Palestinian grandmother, was born in Berlin on the day the Berlin Wall came down. Having absorbed the revolutionary energy from that time with her mother’s milk and highly influenced by her Palestinian father’s life story, she composes songs with her musical Heroes from within the Palestinian diaspora that are all about collective liberation, empowerment and healing.
In this solo performance Jamila will take you on an audio visual story telling journey with live music and videos on her Palestinian family, experiences from her time volonteering in Jenin and survival strategies as a Palestinian in the diaspora in Berlin before and after the genocide started.
