Omid J, known as omjvinyls, is an Afghan American archivist and DJ from the San Francisco Bay Area with roots in Kunar province. His passion for collecting vinyl and cassettes began at 14, exploring thrift stores and record shops before connecting with music lovers worldwide.After 9/11, Omid’s interest in his Afghan heritage deepened, leading him to collect music and TV sounds from Afghanistan. He has worked with the Afghan diaspora and individuals in Afghanistan to preserve historical TV videos and music cassettes.Dedicated to translating Afghan poems, music, and clips, Omid aims to share and preserve Afghanistan’s rich cultural history.
